Media texts have all the characteristics of a virus: an organism with no internal function other than to replicate itself. Similarly as viruses, media texts must parasite a host (human knowledge) in order to survive, and use the cellular material of the host (topics of interest) to make copies of themselves. A symbiotic relationship has now been established and the virus is now built into the host which sees the virus as a useful part of itself. Based on William Burroughs's "Electronic Revolution" ideas, this visualization project tries to investigate how mass media "story" our world and uncover patterns of control that may lie under this communication. It suggests a new way of evaluating media texts by exploring lines of association between news topics, and proposes an alternative way of recording this information with a cross-generation perspective, a concept known as time-binding.
